Gateway Math Fellowship
For colleges that see math as critical to student retention, enrollment, and persistence, our Gateway Math Fellowship is changing the paradigm of 9-16 math pedagogy.
Quality of instruction is the most pivotal factor affecting student pass rates, yet few colleges have the professional development capacity to effectively train their professors in how to address the skill gaps of incoming freshmen. National 8th grade math proficiency statistics show the steepest decline in decades. Unless colleges drastically change their pedagogical model, this crisis will result in critical failure.
Tenured full-time math faculty often lead research and teach advanced level courses. As a result, part-time adjunct faculty with minimal access to professional development, many of whom teach at multiple colleges, bear the burden of entry-level math courses. CPC has developed the Gateway Math Fellowship to strengthen the pedagogical capacity of math faculty through the lens of student motivation and sense of belonging.
